Apple has repeatedly struggled to match Google in the online mapping space.
Apple’s Maps was heavily criticized after its introduction in 2012 because of mulitple glitches and inaccuracies. CEO Tim Cook even made a statement on the Apple website apologizing to users for problems with the service. Since then Apple has made multiple investments to improve its built in mapping system. In October the company released its Apple Maps Connect program, which let local businesses create and submit details to listings to make information more accurate for the end user.
